Advice For Growing Fennel In The Garden

Fennel is a hardy, perennial that is grown annual for its fragrant young leaves and aromatic seeds which are both used for flavoring. It can be grown from seeds or from root division. Before planting, you may want to consider the location first as the fennel plants can grow up to five feet tall. If you decided to grow Fennel Herb in the garden, sow the seeds early in the spring as the seed is slow to sprout. Seeds will germinate usually about eight to 10 days. Give them a light fertilization and make sure that the plants are moist during the growing season and it will reward you with a good harvest. Water it regularly specially in long dry periods. Fennel prefers full sun and well-drained soil with plenty of compost. Fennel seeds can be taken when their colors turned light brown. You can cut the umbels to minimize seeds falling off. Dry the seeds in the sun before storing it to prevents them molding from residual moisture.
